About Me

Hi, my name is Kevin Mellott. Virtual Reality is one of my major passions. My original Mellott’s VR Page was started on Geocities in 1998 as part of a class project. Much of the original content is still maintained on this site for reference. This new website is intended to give the older site a new look and allow me to expand with new projects in the future.

My first Virtual Encounter was enough to hook me on the amazing concept of virtual reality (VR). From there I began modifying nintendo power gloves to work with desktop computers. I was studying to be an electronic technician at the time and that’s when I purchased my first head mounted display (HMD), the Forte VFX1. It’s still my favorite HMD of all time. I eventually wanted to be able to design and build my own VR gear and this led me to get my Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley in 2009. Over the years I’ve used many different consumer level HMDs, datagloves, and head trackers. I’ve also had the opportunity to use many high end military HMDs and systems. In my professional life, I’m apart of a talented team that builds HMDs and human-computer interface devices for the military and high end commercial markets. Almost all of my personal projects are centered around VR. In more recent years I’ve gone a bit nuts with Virtual Boy related projects.

My hope is that this website will help others get started in the world of VR. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me
